About 12 hours after it was shut down in the United States, TikTok has become available again for many users, as if it had never left. This return is due to a measure by elected President Donald Trump to keep the app alive. What a joy for TikTok fans!
The idea of bringing back the app has gained momentum following the news that TikTok will no longer be available to users in the United States starting Saturday night.
The app was not available in the Apple and Google Play stores, just like Lemon8 and CapCut, which are also part of the TikTok family, which belongs to the Chinese company ByteDance.
Today, Sunday, January 19, Trump shared that he had plans to sign a decree after his inauguration on Monday, with the intention of postponing the ban law. And in the blink of an eye, users in the United States began to see how access to TikTok and its website was returning!
Trump encouraged TikTok partners to allow the app to become active again: “the order will also ensure that no company that helped prevent the shutdown of TikTok before my decision will face liabilities.”
“Americans deserve to see our exciting inauguration this Monday, as well as other events and conversations,” Trump said.
Trump commented that he was considering a 90-day extension for the ban, in order to give more time to negotiate a deal that would allow the app to be sold to a U.S. owner who is not Chinese. In his post, Trump expressed his interest in creating a 50-50 joint venture between ByteDance, the China-based parent company of TikTok, and a new owner in the United States.
The CEO of TikTok, Shou Chew, also praised Trump in a video responding to the company's defeat in the Supreme Court this Friday: “we are grateful and pleased to have the support of a president who truly understands our platform, one who has used TikTok to express his own thoughts and perspectives, connecting with the world and generating over 60 billion views of his content in the process.”
